One of the first things we wanted to add to our outdoor patio space was a gas grill. We wanted something on the smaller side as we have limited space on our patio, and we felt 2 burners is adequate for grilling for 2-4 people. If you're having a BBQ with 6 or more people, you may want to opt for 3-4 burners instead.
We purchased The Char-Broil Commercial Series Tru-Infared 2-Burner Gas Grill. Our Commercial Series model is no longer available to purchase online, but the Performance Series™ Amplifire™ 2 Burner Grill is still available. The Performance Series basically has the same specs as the Commercial Series with the exception of the Performance having porcelain coated steel grating and the Commercial has cast iron. Below is our Char-Broil gas grill review.
Char-Broil claims that the Tru-Infared technology, now called Amplifire technology, prevents flare ups and cooks evenly across the grill without any cold spots. However, we find that anything that's near the edges of the grates will not cook the same as items near the center. The Char-Broil was very easy to assemble. This grill has the ability to hook up a natural gas, but we opted to hook up propane tanks instead. Installing the tanks was simple and the gas attachment even has a gauge on it so you'll know when it's time to swap tanks. The temperature gauge on the firebox works accurately and the grill heats up to 400 degrees in about 5 minutes. It isn't difficult to clean the Char-Broil either. Ours came with a proprietary scraper tool that fits perfectly in the grooves of the grates, but I'm not sure if the current models come with this or not.
After 3 years of use, everything still works perfect with the exception of the ignitor. It died at around the 2.5 year mark. Although, it was easy to find a replacement ignitor and install it and we hope to have a review and tutorial on that in the future. All in all, the 2 Burner Char-Broil is a great little grill and perfect for a couple or small family to enjoy.
