Dr. Earth Soil and Fertilizer Review

Dr. Earth Fertilizer Review

We've been wanting to do a Dr. Earth Soil and fertilizer review because we use so many of their products on our rooftop garden. Our lime tree and blueberry bushes are flourishing and I'm sure the Dr. Earth products have a lot to do with that.

The Dr. Earth probiotic fertilizers and soils have been exclusively organic since they entered the market in 1991. Their website states that Dr. Earth only uses sustainable resources that have a positive effect on the environment. They harvest food scraps to create organic soils and fertilizers that will in turn, grow organic food. We can confirm that their soil and fertilizer look, feel, and smell of a higher quality than other gardening brands on the market. Dr. Earth carries a variety of soil and fertilizer types for whichever plant you're trying to grow. For example, we use the Acid Lover soil and fertilizer for our blueberry bushes and the Cactus soil and Fruit Tree fertilizer for our lime tree.

The fertilizing process is simple. Each plant has it's own frequency with how often it gets fertilized. Here's a tutorial of what we do for our lime tree:

  1. Dig up 1-2 inches of top soil and discard.

  2. Sprinkle in 1 handful of fertilizer.

  3. Rake it into to the soil with your fingers.

  4. Cover the fertilizer with 1-2 inches of fresh soil.

  5. Give the lime tree a deep water.

Re-fertilizing our lime tree every 2 months has allowed it to continuously produce fresh limes all year round. Dr. Earth also has plenty of information on their website and is a great resource for new home gardeners like ourselves. A lot of our gardening has been trial and error to see what works best on a Los Angeles rooftop, but we're happy to see that our fruit bearing plants are still delivering. Ultimately, we love the Dr. Earth brand and feel their products will continue to keep our plants healthy and fruitful!
