Dyson Cordless Vacuum Review

Updated: Jun 20, 2023

Most of the appliances we have in our home share one thing in common, they make life easier. The Dyson Cordless Vacuums do exactly that. We currently have two Dyson Vacuums, a V7 model and an Outsize model. They don't make the V7 anymore, but the closest model available to that is the V8.

We each separately owned a Dyson Cordless Vacuum before we moved in together. We liked them so much that we decided to keep both in use and put them on separate floors. We have a townhouse style home with the kitchen/dining room on the first floor and the bedrooms on the second floor. The V7 Vacuum is mounted by the dining room and the Outsize is mounted in a closet in the bedroom. Having the ability to grab the vacuum off the wall mount and carry it anywhere without needing to plug it in is extremely convenient. We've never run out of battery while running either vacuum.

There are several differences between the V7 and Outsize models. The waste bins are different sizes and have different release mechanisms. The V7 has a smaller bin, and to empty you pull the lever from the top and it releases out of the bottom. The Outsize has a much larger bin with a release mechanism that functions like a trombone. One isn't necessarily better than the other, but the weight of the V7 is much lighter than the Outsize. Another key difference is the V7 has a fixed battery built inside that can't be swapped out or replaced, nor is there a battery life indicator. The Outsize model comes with 2 detachable batteries that can be swapped out to maximize battery life and it also has an LCD screen showing you the time remaining on the battery.

The Dyson vacuums easily suck up just about anything pebble size or smaller without any trouble, but they do work better on carpet and tile than hardwood floors. Dyson makes a Slim Fluffy Cleaner Head that would do a better job on hardwood, but with the standard cleaner head you'll probably need to run over debris a few times. To operate each vacuum you need to actively squeeze and hold the trigger. This can make using the Outsize model a little more taxing because of the extra weight.

A nice thing about both Dyson vacuums is that all the tools that came with each model can be used with the other. The included tools easily swap out with the click and lock technology. We probably use the crevice tool and combination tool the most other than the standard vacuum head. Both models can remove the extension hose to shrink down in size for vacuuming out your car. The vacuums are tremendously versatile with many interchangeable parts. Mounting the wall charger is very easy. While other vacuums hide in the closet, the Dyson is mounted on display for everyone to see. The design of the Dyson Cordless Vacuums is incredibly stylish. It looks like a toy for grown ups and maybe that's the attraction with these vacuums. Both vacuums have worked flawlessly. The V7 model has been in use since 2018 and the Outsize model has been used since 2020. They make cleaning convenient and I don't think either of us are giving up our vacuums anytime soon.
