Instant Pot Review

Updated: Jul 14, 2023

We both enjoy cooking in our home. We had put off getting an Instant Pot for a few different reasons. One of the reasons we didn't want to get one was because we have limited space in our kitchen and didn't feel like we had enough room for another appliance. We also weren't sure about all the hype behind it, did it really save you a significant amount of time? Did it turn out as well as if you cooked the same meal a traditional way?

Both of our parents and my sister all have Instant Pots and told us they really were as good as they sounded. Then during different visits with our families we got to try a few meals and couldn't believe they had been cooked so quickly and turned out so well. We gave in and got ourselves one at the beginning of the year and it is well worth the hype.

After an exhausting day of work the last thing we feel up for is cooking a nice meal. Sometimes I'll just stop and grab some fast food because the thought of spending 30 to 45 minutes making a nice meal is too much to deal with. However, with the Instant Pot there are several easy recipes that will take 5 minutes to throw together and another 10 to 15 to cook. So instead of spending 15 minutes in a fast food line I take 5 minutes to prep and set the Instant Pot and then head upstairs to take a shower. By the time I get out and change into my PJs I have a nice home cooked dinner ready to serve.

If you forget to thaw your frozen meat, no problem. You just add a few more minutes worth of cooking time. There are several settings on the Instant Pot, but we really just use the sauté and pressure cook buttons. We have a handful of go to recipes that we love to cook regularly including yellow chicken curry, pot roast and arroz con pollo.

There are plenty of cookbooks and YouTube videos that can help get you started with Instant Pot meals. Something I was shocked that you can make in the Instant Pot was a really good potato salad. It takes 4 minutes to cook the potatoes and hard boil the eggs to perfection. It's relatively easy to clean out as well. It has simplified the process of cooking dinner when we both are having busy work weeks. We still use our oven and stovetop when we have time to enjoy cooking, but when we're busy, or just want a quick meal, the Instant Pot is our go to.
