LifeStraw 7-Cup Glass Pitcher Review

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

We first bought our LifeStraw Pitcher at the beginning of 2023. We had just gotten back from Seattle and our Britta filter just wasn't cutting it when it came to filtering the harsh LA water. Even after the water would go through our old filter, the water didn't taste great and had a bit of a funky smell. We discovered how bad the Los Angeles water quality is, which we wrote about in a previous blog post which you can find here.

We started researching the best pitchers and filters. One of the nice things about the LifeStraw Pitcher is that it double filters the water. It not only has a carbon filter, which eliminates foul tastes and smells, but it also has a membrane filter which removes 99.99% of the harmful contaminants found in tap water including microplastics. The carbon filter is meant to be replaced every 2 months and the membrane filter lasts a year.

One thing to be aware of, the LifeStraw Pitcher takes much longer to fill than a more common pitcher found on store shelves. Starting with a completely empty LifeStraw Pitcher, it takes about 3-5 minutes from filling the chamber to filtering all the water through. And that initial first process, will only fill the pitcher a quarter of the way full. To completely fill the pitcher, it will take about 15-20 minutes. For us it's definitely worth the wait to have odorless and clean tasting water.

We can see how some people might have an issue with waiting that long for the pitcher to filter, but what has been working for us is to fill a secondary pitcher with the LifeStraw water so we don't find ourselves waiting on the filtration system.

We use the water from the LifeStraw Pitcher in everything from our French press coffee in the morning to our SodaStream and cooking water. We even fill our cats water bowl with it (no complaints from her).

We've been using this pitcher for half a year and I can't see myself using anything else.
