Nespresso Vertuo Coffee and Espresso Machine Review

Updated: Jun 7

Nespresso Vertuo Review

We love coffee. Getting up in the morning is never easy, but having a little caffeine can give you something to look forward to. As much as we enjoy using our french press or Chemex to make our morning coffee, sometimes it's just nice to push a button instead. This led us to the Nespresso Vertuo Coffee and Espresso Machine.

We've had a Vertuo machine for 10 years now and it still works just as it did the first time it was put in service. No issues in that time. The maintenance is fairly easy. The machine requires a descale every 300 pods. We just do it once annually at the beginning of the year, but if you were to notice the flavor of your coffee changing for the worse, you'd definitely want to descale sooner rather than later.

Once you fill the reservoir with water and select the Nespresso pod of your choosing, you will have a cup of coffee in roughly 30 seconds. The Vertuo line of Nespresso allows you to brew various sizes of coffee from a 1.7 ounce espresso size to a full size 7.77 ounce cup. The 5 ounce pods seem to be the perfect size for us with the most balanced flavor.

Does the Nespresso machine produce the best tasting coffee we've ever had? No, but it's definitely good. The 5 ounce Ethiopia, Costa Rica, Inizio and Arondio are some of our favorites. For espresso pods, Altissio (regular and decaf) and Voltesso are great and the Double Espresso Dolce is great for Cappuccinos and Lattes. For some reason, the 7.77 ounce pods taste a little too watery for our liking, but the Intenso and Odacio flavors are good and the Half Caffeinato is great for a mid day cup.

The biggest selling point that attracted us to the Nespresso Vertuo Machine, is the ease of use and the swift speed at which it produces coffee at the touch of a button. When you're on the go and don't have time to make coffee the old fashioned way, there's no better method at home. Another thing we like is that the pods are recyclable. This is one of the biggest features that drew us to Nespresso over Keurig machines, as the plastic K-Cups seem rather wasteful. Also, the fact that the Nespresso Vertuo line does both Coffee and Espresso makes it more versatile than other coffee makers. The marketing for the Nespresso brand makes it seem like it makes premium coffee. I wouldn't say the coffee is premium, but sometimes a quick cup of coffee that tastes good is all you want. The fact that this machine has held up for 10 years, and still does exactly what it was intended to do, makes this a premium machine.

There is also a beautiful organizer that fits under the machine for your pods. That slides out in a convenient drawer. It's both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
