NewAir Black Stainless Steel Wine Refrigerator - Review

Updated: Jul 14, 2023

We travel to Santa Barbara and Paso Robles several times a year and we purchase a fair amount of wine annually. We wanted something large enough to keep our precious wine safe and temperature controlled. We landed on the NewAir Dual zone 46 bottle Black Stainless Steel Wine Refrigerator as we enjoy both white and red wines and want to store them at different temperatures.

We purchased the NewAir Black Stainless Wine Refrigerator back in 2018, and it has been running perfectly for 5 years now with no issues. The only complaint we have is that it came with a minor dent on the side of the fridge door. It's barely noticeable, but it is there if you look close enough.

We've read lots of negative reviews about these wine fridges dying within a year or two, but luckily (knock on wood) we haven't noticed any major issues with the compressor or climate system. A cool feature we really like is that the glass door is treated with an anti-UV filter to protect against sunlight exposure. Even though the front of our fridge isn't facing a window, it's nice to know that it would be protected if we moved it someplace else.

The NewAir runs fairly quiet. When the compressor kicks in, it sounds like a low level hum. When the house is completely silent you'll definitely hear it kick in, but we wouldn't describe it as noisy at all. On the bottom of the wine fridge there's a keyhole to lock the door closed if you're away from home and don't want anyone to get inside, though we've never needed to lock it up.

The climate zones are pretty simple to change. The zones can be manually adjusted to your desired temperature. We keep the top zone for the white wines set to 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and the lower zone for the reds at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. 55 degrees is the sweet spot for long term storage, but I prefer to have the whites a little colder. The choice is yours, but be aware that wines stored higher than 65 degrees Fahrenheit can accelerate the aging process and wines stored colder than 45 degrees Fahrenheit will not fully develop their aroma and flavor.

The NewAir Black Stainless Steel 46 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Refrigerator has held up well and has worked flawlessly since we purchased it back in 2018. If you are a casual wine drinker or collector, this is the perfect size for storing wine and has met our expectations for this long term review.
